Under two months to go

Invitations have been mailed (and e-mailed). RSVPs are already starting to trickle in, since most people are able to do them online. How exciting! I still have a handful of straggler invitations that need to be sent as well…

We’ll be going over to town hall soon (probably next week) to get our marriage license.

It’s not 100% *wedding* related, but we’ll be moving into our new place next week!

We have the *couples shower* his aunts are throwing for us this Saturday. I have another shower the following weekend.

Here’s what I’m wearing this Saturday:

I have a little ivory-colored sweater to wear over it, because it’s likely to be a bit chilly.

(I’ve become dress girl this season. I can’t stop buying cute little dresses…fortunately, I’m a pretty good bargain shopper! coupons are my friends.)

What’s still left to do? Unfortunately, a lot of what was on my last update! We still have to work on our playlists, finalize our ceremony, meet with our banquet manager, etc. and so forth.

I keep remembering little details that I’m going to need to take care of…like getting ribbon for the cake!

Once my grades for the semester are in (will be done by tomorrow evening), and we’re past the move (next week), I think my brain will be able to focus a little bit more on all these details!

I can’t believe how fast it’s coming…

The update I promised

Apologies to readers of erin-go-blog, where I promised an update earlier this morning. Oops!

A couple of days ago, I mailed my snail mail invitations. I took them to a small post office out in the boonies, near the college where I teach at night. I like going there, because even when it’s busy, it’s not *busy*. The ladies there were super nice. When the clerk took my invitation and weighed it, it came up just over an ounce. She weighed it again on the other scale, and it came up at exactly an ounce. She weighed it a couple more times, and told me to make sure that I stamped the envelopes and gave them back to her to cancel, to make sure that I wouldn’t have any problems. Woohoo!

I did take a couple of pictures, but because of privacy issues, I have them marked friends only in my flickr set.

I’ll be getting the email invitations out in the next couple of days. πŸ˜€

I feel like I had something else to say, but I forgot what it was. Oh well.

Happy Friday!

What I’ve been up to

Yeah, things have been a little busy here. We’re getting ready to move (ack!) later this month into a place of our very own! That’s exciting, but also a tiny bit crazy making, with the timing and all!

My mom found a dress:

It’s from David’s Bridal, and it’s going to be in the color pictured.

I looked around for some dresses for my cousin, and I found this one (also at David’s Bridal):

(That would be the one on the little girl)

Since she’s the only female attendant, I’m letting her and my aunt choose. I sent a bunch of dresses I found that I would be fine with, but that’s the one I think will probably work best.

This weekend, I’ve been busy working on invitations. I did accomplish a lot, so I’m happy about that. I want to get them out within the next week, and that looks like it will be do-able. Our website is almost ready to go as well, so I’ve been trying to verify email addresses.

Counter says 69 days. In 9 days, we can apply for our license!

That’ll do for me…more things to do!

80 Days

According to my little counter widget, I have 80 days until the wedding. That’s…wow, not a lot of time!

I’m still working on my physical paper invitations. Thank goodness I’m not doing these for everyone–I’d lose my mind! As it is, I’d been struggling with getting the reply cards to print straight. I solved that problem, but now I’m afraid I’m not going to have enough! (The paper invites are mainly for older relatives who are not technologically inclined or do not have email…)

Hmmm…what else is on my mind these days? Well, I’m going to be having two showers, and those are coming up soon. Rand’s aunts on his dad’s side are throwing us a couples shower here in Buffalo, and that’s going to be the second week of May. And just last week, a friend of my mom’s said she wanted to have a shower for me. That’s going to be Memorial Day weekend. I’m a little bit worried that we haven’t registered for enough items…there’s not a whole lot of stuff we *need*. Of course, it’s always nice to have new things. We are not registering for fine china (just some everyday dishes), silver, or crystal. Just not our thing. I don’t care enough to ask anyone to spend that kind of money, and I *really* don’t care enough to purchase pieces that we don’t get for the wedding. No China.

We have a friend who sells Pampered Chef, so we have a registry there (I think I need to show some love to that one…). We also registered at Amazon. I started that MyRegistry.com registry, but I very quickly realized that every single thing I was putting on it was from Bed Bath & Beyond. So I deleted it and started a registry at BB&B. I put some things on it online, and last weekend, Rand and I went to the store to add things like towels and sheets and other random items.

In the midst of all this madness, Rand and I are buying a town house. We close mid-May, so I’ve been trying to determine what we’re going to need for the new place. It’s so hard to do without being IN the new place! Gah.

I still haven’t found anything for my hair. I also don’t know what I’m going to do about makeup. I wear very, very little makeup on a daily basis, and Rand very specifically *likes* me without makeup. However, I know that I will look like crap in the photos if I don’t step it up a bit. I don’t know if I want to pay someone to do my makeup, but I’m thinking of asking my friend who used to sell Mary Kay for her help.

Everything big is done (well, except for paying for it!), but there are all of these little things that need to be taken care of. I’m so afraid I’m going to forget about something!

Rand and I still need to work on our music playlists and nail down the ceremony. We have time, I know, but not that much, and things are about to get really hectic! What do you do to keep from panicking? πŸ˜€

100 days!

Yes, after today, we will be in (gasp!) double digits. So how about a quick little report?
As far as things being checked off of lists, I’m working on invitations. We went and ordered Rand’s tux (and are a little bit nervous about not getting any kind of receipt or, well, anything in written form at all. No deposit…pay in full when tux is picked up. Is this normal?).

I sent the contract for our flowers yesterday.

I’ve been working on registry stuff. Last night, Jen sent me a link to a site called MyRegistry – you can register for items at *any* store. Pretty cool, right? I started one, but obviously, we have to do some more work on it!

I’m also working on centerpieces. Interestingly enough, the site that my mom and I found was the same one mentioned here in the comments, Save On Crafts. Sadly, I can’t show them to you right now, because the site is blocked. πŸ˜› At any rate, I bought a bunch of glassware at Dollar Tree (I had to visit three different stores to get enough!), and I’m on the hunt for mirror tiles and finding that they cost more than I really want to spend. I wish you could rent them, because really…what am I going to do with 25 *mirror tiles* after the wedding??

Yesterday, I went and visited Barbara Oliver, the jeweler recommended by Nicole, and she’s going to make me a pair of fabulous earrings. I don’t know exactly how much they’re going to be, because they’re gold and the price of gold varies from day to day. I had thought about going to a crafty-beading place, or having someone on etsy make them, but then thought better of it. I cannot put cheap metal in my ears, even if it says “hypo-allergenic.” My ears get irritated really easily, and the last thing I want is red, itchy, inflamed ears.

Ummm…that’s all I can think of right now…I’ll be back to talk about the centerpieces when I can!

Planning update

We’ve been up to a lot in the past couple of weeks, so I thought a little update might be in order.

RingsΒ

We bought Rand’s ring. We ordered it from eweddingbands.com, and what Rand wanted (yellow gold, comfort fit) was nearly half the price jewelry stores were asking. It arrived quickly via fed ex, and there were no problems with it whatsoever. Hurrah! I have a photo, which I will post later.

Invitations

I’m bucking tradition, but I am SO excited about what we’re doing with the invitations.

Our friend Thomas is going to design a web page for us. The main page will be our “invitation,” and the other information that would be inserted into a traditional invitation will be pages branching out from that main page. Our friend Debbie did an illustration of us that we’re going to use.

Of course, for those members of our family who are not so tech-savvy, we’ll be sending a regular invitation. My mom found a kit yesterday at Michael’s, and we’re going to try and incorporate Debbie’s design.

Ceremony

We spent some time talking about our ceremony…what it’s going to look like, what’s going to be read and who will read. We also decided that we’re going to have a unity candle, with some possible slight changes to the traditional unity candle ceremony. Our friend Ron, a very talented classical guitarist, is going to provide the music. (We haven’t made any specific decisions about processional/recessional music yet).

Registry

We spent some time over the weekend talking about where to register and what for. We still have some work to do here!

Music

The after-dinner portion of our reception will be approximately three hours long. We’re thinking about devoting the last hour of the reception to karaoke…my cousin has a karaoke machine that we think we can hook up. Thoughts?

I know there are other things left to do, but things seem to be moving along well. We’re just a bit over four months out–I can’t wait! πŸ™‚
